People in the UK who love African-made goods often faced a frustrating dilemma: finding authentic, high-quality items from skilled African artisans in their own cities was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Traditional online marketplaces either lacked a focus on African artisans or didn't have a strict vetting process, leaving customers unsure about the authenticity and quality of the products they found.
When I joined the project, the user flow was already established, so I focused my research on potential competitors. While I didn't find any direct competitors, I did identify indirect competitors operating in the African market. As a product designer, I conducted usability testing to identify any usability issues and gather feedback on the existing user flow. This process helped validate the design and ensure that it met user needs. By directly observing users interact with the flow created, I was able to identify areas for improvement and make necessary adjustments to enhance the overall user experience.
I conducted a thorough analysis of competitor platforms to identify opportunities for Afrosme.
While I found some platforms that listed artisans, many lacked a specific focus on African artisans. This presented a significant opportunity for Afrosme to cater to a niche market and provide a more tailored experience.
